| SSC Trätrappor AB in Norsjö welcomes a distinguished visitor. For three weeks, the Swedish artist now active in New York, Ragna Berlin, will be working at the factory and creating a sculpture in the form of a ”stairway without borders”. To her help, she has two specialist joiners and all the equipment available at the largest and most up-to-date stair factory in Scandinavia. There will be a vernissage held at SSC Trätrappor on March 6. ”Since I’m an architect originally, it feels very inspiring to be able to get to grips with a stairway without having to take any confinements into account”, says Ragna Berlin. ”Hopefully, this unusual project will spur us in our product development”, says SSC Trätrappor’s Managing Director Bengt Lindgren. | Artist: Ragna Berlin

Ragna Berlin’s work at SSC Trätrappor, which starts February 16, is part of the Museum Anna Nordlander CAP project - Cooperation for Art Production. In this project, the museum is working to develop ways of cooperating around art by inviting an artist to create a work of art in cooperation with a company in Västerbotten.
Ragna Berlin is an experienced artist and architect. She works with various kinds of media; sculpture, painting, installations and photography. Her works often contain a large portion of humour. The Genus Perspective is also a foundation. She made headlines in conjunction with an art project in Stockholm’s churches. This included a photomontage representing Pope John Paul, Saddam Hussein and Hitler in relaxed repose, side by side. Another photographic project that attracted much attention was incised bull scrotums.
Together with the workers at SSC Trätrappor, Ragna Berlin has been outlining an idea that will be realised in just three intensive weeks. To help her, she has experienced joiners Jörgen Haraldsson and Joakim Granström.
”We're taking the chance of carrying out this project during part of the year when things are a little quieter in the factory. It’s going to be very exciting to see where it lands”, says Bengt Lindgren. What’s going to happen to the ”stairway without borders” after the exhibition hasn't been decided yet.
”I hope it can be used to adorn some public facility”, Ragna Berlin concludes. More information: Bengt Lindgren, SSC Trätrappor, +46 70-667 56 70 Maria Backström, Museum Anna Nordlander, +46 70-552 41 41 Ragna Berlin, artist, +46 70-731 55 22. | |
