Joinex sums up key role in Turning Torso

When Joinexsums up its part in the Turning Torso project, one of the largest and most renowned construction projects in modern time in Sweden, they can look back on an entirely positive experience. ”We’ve played an inspirational key role where our ability, capacity, quality and flexibility have been used to their full extent”, says Christer Hedström, salesman at Joinex.

Front covers to the 190-metre high core of the building, interior doors to all 54 floors, the entire interior on the reception floor - just some examples of what Joinex has supplied and assembled.

”We’ve also been responsible for the entire interior on the 53rd and 54th floors that make up the building's very exclusive conference facility, Turning Torso Meeting”, says Hedström.

Giving his reasons for Joinex being entrusted with this prestigious order, Ingvar Nohlin, Project Manager for HSB Turning Torso says: ”One important reason is that Joinex has what is needed to handle such an extensive and exceptional delivery.”

”We’ve been here with our fitters and site management throughout nearly the entire project. The project’s also swelled considerably over time with additions and revisions until the very last minute, which has placed unusually high demands on our flexibility”, says Hedström.

One great challenge has been the project’s high degree of difficulty, much due to Turning Torso’s unusual design and complicated geometry. One example of this is the 2.4-metre height of the interior doors to allow the entry of more light; another is the pie-shaped false ceiling where each ceiling board is unique. A third is the unusual type of hardwood that’s being used, e.g. pear wood.

”It’s size, complexity and exclusivity have permeated down and placed high demands on us during the whole project, from initial planning, acquisition of raw materials and manufacturing to final assembly. Turning Torso has been an exciting and interesting trip for us and we look forward to similar challenges in the future”, Joinex’s Christer Hedström concludes.
