SSC Trätrappor develops stairs for apartment blocks.
| In timber-built apartment blocks it is often desirable to avoid the use of concrete stairs and carry through the wood theme on the stairs. This was the reason why timber-frame company Bygg i Trä AB commissioned SSC Trätrappor to develop a new design for wooden stairs. “We’ve produced a prototype design for the stairs. The main aim was to meet requirements for fire resistance, durability, maintenance and appearance. These requirements are totally different in an apartment block compared with a family house,” says Per-Olof Alm, marketing manager for SSC Trätrappor. |
| Bygg i Trä AB was set up in October 2005. The company’s headquarters are in Skellefteå and it is backed by four companies, each of them pioneers of multistory, timber-frame building in Sweden. The gang of four are Martinsons Byggsystem AB in Bygdsiljum, Lindbäcks Bygg AB in Piteå, Swelite AB in Rundvik and White Arkitekter AB. Since its foundation Bygg i Trä has been working to develop a common system for building multistory buildings with timber frames. The result is an integrated system that covers all aspects, from design support and project management, to manufacturing and erection. The Bygg i Trä building system has also been developed to be compatible with industrial manufacturing methods used by the relevant manufacturers. The ground has been laid to offer the market custom solutions at low cost. | |
| Pilot project in Skellefteå Bygg i Trä is now working hard to set up a pilot project. The company has feelers out in Luleå, Piteå, Umeå and Skellefteå. It is most likely that the pilot project will take place in the Älvsbacka area in Skellefteå, where four apartment blocks are to be built, each of five or six floors. The intended clients are HSB and Riksbyggen. The municipality of Skellefteå should have a detailed plan for the area ready by late autumn of 2006, after which building work can begin. |
