The Gyldendal house in Oslo was recently named the winner of a Norwegian building competition, Building Project of the Year 2007. The project, which was completed in November, involved an extensive facelift for historical publishing house Gyldendal’s building and offices. Widely acclaimed Sverre Fehn handled the architecture while SSC Joinex supplied both its range of products and cutting-edge expertise.

“Naturally, we’re extremely pleased to be included in an awarding-winning context. We were particularly inspired in this project by the fact that we could put to use several aspects of our unique range of products and thereby make things easier for the customer. As a supplier of multiple items, we can assume a greater responsibility,” explains Magnus Lindgren, sales rep at SSC Joinex.

Responsibility coupled with innovative thinking characterised the Gyldendal project. The publishing house took over the building back in 1912. For cultural reasons, the exterior of the building was required to remain intact.  On the inside however, there’s been no shortage of effort or new ideas. “The Gyldendal house is unique for several reasons, but in particular for project architect Sverre Fehn, one of the most famous in Norway and all of Scandinavia. From an architectural perspective, it is the building’s central room, the atrium, which is the most spectacular with full ceiling height reaching up all five floors and a large opening at the top that lets in a lot of light,” says Magnus.   This inflow of light is in various ways synonymous with the functions of Joinex’s products since deliveries have included outer and inner doors as well as glass partitions. And in several ways, it was a question of somewhat special solutions. “Well, in regard to the 100-something inner doors, they have an oak veneer and laminate coating.
