Skellefteå Snickericentral cooperative society has a new chairman. Dan Magnusson is taking over at the helm after Sven-Olof Holmström, who has been chairman since 1997 and active within the society since 1964.
"It's a very well run cooperative society, but we have to work hard the whole time to create continuity and to advance our positions," says Dan Magnusson.

Sven-Olof Holmström became chairman in 1997 when SSC Skellefteå AB was formed as a wholly owned subsidiary of Skellefteå Snickericentral a position he has held since then.

Sven-Olof is now stepping back and handing over to Dan Magnusson.
"I've known Dan for a long time. He has lengthy experience of leading companies and working within the wood industry, and is also dedicated to the cooperative philosophy," says Sven-Olof Holmström.

54-year-old Dan Magnusson has a background as a constructional engineer and began his career in 1979 as a building materials seller. He has worked as a project manager, marketing manager and sales manager at various companies and since 1991 has served as CEO, within the wood and other industries. Between 2007 and 2010 Dan Magnusson was CEO of Railcare AB in Skelleftehamn.
"Being part of launching Railcare on the Stockholm Stock Exchange was very exciting.
There are a few similarities between a quoted company and a cooperative society. Among other things, it is vital that all members and shareholders receive the same information simultaneously. The formalities are equally important," he explains.

Nowadays Dan Magnusson runs his own business development consultancy.
"One of my passions is quality enhancement. SSC is definitely at the forefront within this area, but there are always things that can be improved and I look forward to offering my experience from the engineering industry, which has fought long and hard to live up to the demands of the global car industry."

Dan Magnusson is also chairman and director of several other companies and is on the committee of the Västerbotten Ice Hockey Association.
"I have a great interest in sports and was chairman of Clemensnäs Hockey Club for 15 years."

Dan Magnusson was flattered when he was offered the chairmanship of Skellefteå Snickericentral.
"Over the years I've had a lot of contact with SSC and know it is one of the strongest brands in northern Sweden. I've also great respect for the work that Sven-Olof Holmström has put in for SCC and the Swedish wood industry as a whole. He's simply a legend," says Dan Magnusson.

When Dan Magnusson is asked what he considers to be his strong side he chooses his ability to view an organisation from a holistic perspective.
"Which will no doubt be put to good use in a broad organisation like SSC."

From local to international
Sven-Olof Holmström has been active in SSC for 47 years. After a year as financial controller, in 1965 he became the society's treasurer.
"I'd learnt all about societies at IFK Bjurfors, which in many ways was the forerunner in the Swedish sport sector with regard to effective committee work," explains Sven-Olof.

In 1976 he was appointed CEO of Skellefteå Snickericentral, a position he held until 1997.
"Being part of guiding SSC from the local to the national and on to the international market has been a wonderful experience. I usually say this wouldn't have been possible without the 10-year period that the housing project Million Programme went on. Having access to Skellefteå Airport was also a big help," he concludes.
